A little about me:
My essential priority in therapy, regardless of what an individual comes in with, is to make them feel comfortable, safe, seen, and heard. I highlight an initial “intake” process as I focus on truly getting to know my clients, demonstrating my clinical social worker/therapist role by valuing diversity, culture, and unique experiences. We all have a story to tell, and I want to hear about the past, the present, and goals for the future. I love to address each milestone and memory with compassion and consideration, whether I’m establishing a therapeutic relationship or goal!
I approach therapy without judgment, with empathy, and a bit of humor! Although there may be some difficult topics or days, some lightheartedness amplifies connection and coping! Some common models I use are Cognitive behavioral therapy, Narrative therapy, and Psychodynamic therapy, as they all work to change maladaptive thoughts or behaviors and consider the core root of concerns. However, I describe myself as eclectic, pulling from different modalities and skill sets that fit the individual and their needs. Working with me is a collaborative process. I encourage all my clients to discuss their short-term and long-term goals with me to craft an ideal, motivating therapeutic plan.
Much of my background in education and therapeutic work comes from advocacy for those impacted by trauma, such as sexual assault survivors. Along with building trust and establishing a safe space for clients, I work to empower those affected by trauma. My favorite mental health metaphor is that life is a garden; while we may not be able to choose which seeds were planted, we can choose which seeds to water. Everyone can flourish despite hardship. Change is possible!
